{"id":12901,"date":"2026-04-23T20:24:33","date_gmt":"2026-04-23T19:24:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/europedia24.com\/lufthansa-cancels-20000-flights-across-europe-until-october\/"},"modified":"2026-04-23T20:56:38","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T19:56:38","slug":"lufthansa-cancels-20000-flights-across-europe-until-october","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/europedia24.com\/en\/lufthansa-cancels-20000-flights-across-europe-until-october\/","title":{"rendered":"Lufthansa cancels 20,000 flights across Europe until October"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The German Lufthansa Group has announced the cancellation of around 20,000 short-haul flights during the period extending until October 2026, in a move aimed at reducing costs linked to rising jet fuel prices, as well as restructuring its European flight network.  <\/p>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lufthansa.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">The Lufthansa Company<\/a> stated that the decision is part of efforts to cut unprofitable routes, particularly short-distance flights, following the sharp increase in <a href=\"https:\/\/europedia24.com\/en\/turkish-airlines-updates-aircraft-for-long-haul-flights\/\">aviation<\/a> fuel prices, which has directly impacted operating costs.   <\/p>\n\n<p>The cancellation plan also includes accelerating the shutdown of Lufthansa CityLine, a subsidiary that previously operated several regional flights within Europe. <\/p>\n\n<p>According to company data, this move will reduce the group\u2019s operational capacity by around 1% during the summer season. <\/p>\n\n<p>Lufthansa has already begun implementing part of the reductions, with around 120 flights per day cancelled from mid-April until the end of May, with further adjustments expected to continue until October.  <\/p>\n\n<p>The measures also include cancelling flights to several destinations, most notably: <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Bydgoszcz and Rzesz\u00f3w in Poland<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stavanger in Norway<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>At the same time, the company will redistribute some flights through its main hubs in <a href=\"https:\/\/europedia24.com\/en\/discover-the-oldest-cafes-in-frankfurtif-you-love-history-and-a-trip-back-in-time-visiting-the-oldest-cafes-in-frankfurt-is-the-perfect-destination-these-cafes-have-been-around-for-more-than\/\">Frankfurt<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/europedia24.com\/%d8%a3%d9%81%d8%b6%d9%84-%d9%81%d9%86%d8%a7%d8%af%d9%82-%d9%85%d9%8a%d9%88%d9%86%d8%ae\/\">Munich<\/a>, Zurich, Vienna, Brussels, and Rome.  <\/p>\n\n<p>The decision is not limited to reducing flights but is part of a broader restructuring plan for the group, which includes several European airlines, aimed at improving profitability and operational efficiency across its hubs.  <\/p>\n\n<p>The group confirmed that some destinations will see flight consolidation instead of separate operations, while long-haul routes will remain largely unchanged. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The German Lufthansa Group has announced the cancellation of around 20,000 short-haul flights during the period extending until October 2026, in a move aimed at reducing costs linked to rising jet fuel prices, as well as restructuring its European flight network.
