Amazon Closes Its Milton Keynes Center, Affecting 590 Employees
Amazon has announced plans to shut down its first logistics center in the UK, located in Milton Keynes, which has been in operation since 1998. The closure will affect around 590 employees currently working at the site.
The company stated that all affected employees will be offered the option to transfer to the new Northampton center or to other Amazon locations. This move comes as part of a regular review of its operational network aimed at improving service efficiency and the working environment.
The new Northampton center is scheduled to open in May at a cost of up to £500 million. In its initial phase, the facility will create approximately 1,400 jobs, with the potential to expand capacity to around 2,000 jobs in the future.
Amazon confirmed that supporting employees and ensuring a smooth transition is a priority during this phase, in order to maintain workforce stability and continue operations without disruption.
