Possible Disruption in 112 Emergency Services in Sweden Following Storm Johannes
Swedish authorities have warned of potential disruptions to emergency calls via 112 in certain areas following the impact of the powerful Storm Johannes, which caused power outages and problems with communication networks.
Västernorrland County stated in an official announcement that power outages could impact mobile phones’ ability to connect to emergency services in counties such as Västernorrland, Dalarna, Jämtland, and Gävleborg, potentially making it difficult or even impossible to reach the 112 number in some cases.
The county revealed that the shutdown of mobile networks due to power outages may hinder access to the vital 112 number, noting that the power disruption could directly affect mobile network coverage in the affected areas.
Authorities also advised affected residents to try removing and reinserting their SIM card if the first call attempt fails, as this may help restore connectivity through the available networks.
Meanwhile, emergency services continue to monitor the situation, and authorities advise citizens to stay updated on weather alerts and public safety warnings during Storm Johannes.
