TEC Activates Hotline 1722 to Assist Storm Victims in Belgium

TEC, the company operating in the transport and emergency sector in Belgium, has announced the activation of the assistance hotline 1722, dedicated to addressing the impacts of severe weather and expected storms, to help those affected.

This decision came after the Royal Meteorological Institute of Belgium (IRM) issued warnings about the risks of severe storms, heavy rainfall, and flooding in parts of the country, prompting authorities to activate non-urgent emergency mechanisms to ensure a rapid response to incidents.

Hotline 1722 is designed as a contact number for citizens to request support from civil protection and fire services in cases related to storm and severe weather damage, such as fallen trees, wind-related damage, or water accumulation, without overloading the main emergency number 112, which is reserved for life-threatening situations.

This step is part of Belgian authorities’ preparations to face turbulent weather waves, following noticeable climate fluctuations in recent months, highlighting the need to strengthen community response and reduce pressure on central emergency lines.
