Turkey Launches New Reporting System in Pharmacies to Address Medicine Shortages

The Turkish Medicines and Medical Devices Agency (TİTCK) has introduced a new system for reporting medicine shortages in pharmacies, aiming to address citizens’ complaints about the unavailability of essential medications.

This official announcement, titled “Goodbye to Medicine Shortages,” comes after repeated patient requests for an effective mechanism to help them locate missing medicines within their local area.

Professor Ahmet İyar, Chairman of the Medicines and Medical Devices Agency, stated that the new system is designed to prevent citizens from having to search extensively for their medications.

The government has also set up a direct hotline at 444 4 680, operating 24/7, to receive reports from patients about unavailable medicines and guide them to the nearest pharmacy where the required medicines are in stock.

İyar explained that the system is not limited to patient reports; pharmacists can also report any shortages directly through an online platform.

This integration between citizens and pharmacists helps ensure rapid responses to shortages and reduces gaps in medicine availability at pharmacies.

The move represents a significant step in the Turkish government’s efforts to guarantee medicine availability and facilitate patient access, following years of repeated complaints about the scarcity of certain vital drugs in the local market.
