Over 30 Infants Suffer Poisoning Linked to Nutrilon Formula in the Netherlands

Several Dutch media outlets reported on Monday that more than 30 infants developed poisoning symptoms after consuming Nutrilon infant formula, raising concerns among parents and health authorities.

Parents stated that the children who consumed the formula experienced symptoms including vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and lethargy, with some requiring urgent medical care in hospitals.

According to Dutch channel RTL, the French company Danone, producer of the formula, has launched a large-scale recall of 14 Nutrilon formula and baby food products available in the market, in coordination with the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA).

The company explained that the recall is due to the potential presence of elevated levels of the compound cerulide, produced by Bacillus cereus bacteria in certain batches, which may cause gastrointestinal poisoning symptoms that could be dangerous for infants, especially in cases of dehydration resulting from diarrhea and vomiting.

Danone confirmed that investigations are ongoing to determine any confirmed link between the formula and the poisoning incidents in the Netherlands.

These cases represent the latest concerns over infant food safety in Europe, prompting health authorities and families to exercise caution and follow official updates closely.
