Snow Disrupts Air Travel in Amsterdam, Hundreds of Flights Canceled

Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, one of Europe’s largest airports, has announced the cancellation of at least 700 flights due to heavy snowfall and strong winds, causing widespread disruption to air travel amid the winter storm affecting the Netherlands and parts of Europe.

The airport management stated in an official release that the severe weather conditions prevented the operation of many flights, forcing over a thousand passengers to spend the night in the Amsterdam airport terminals, where temporary beds were provided as part of precautionary measures to ensure their safety.

The statement confirmed that snow removal teams are working around the clock on the runways to gradually restore air traffic, while noting that the number of cancellations could rise if the cold and strong winds persist.

In addition to impacting flights, the storm caused disruptions to train services across the Netherlands, with the national railway company advising non-essential travelers to postpone their trips until conditions improve, as authorities continue monitoring the weather expected to affect more areas of Western Europe in the coming days.
