Spanish Government Launches New Measures to Simplify Procedures for Migrants
The Spanish government has announced new measures aimed at simplifying administrative procedures for migrants living in the country by creating an electronic registry that will allow organizations supporting migrants to manage certain official procedures on their behalf.
According to the decision published in the Official State Gazette, the system will enable labor unions and social organizations to represent migrants before government administrations and assist them in submitting applications related to residency or other administrative procedures online. This is expected to reduce the complexities many foreigners face when dealing with official documentation.
The registry is set to come into effect on March 6, and eligible organizations will be able to register free of charge. Registration will remain valid for four years and can be renewed if the legal requirements continue to be met.
To join the registry, entities must be legally recognized labor unions or non-profit organizations working in the field of migrant support or international protection. They must also demonstrate at least two years of experience in providing consultations or administrative assistance to foreigners residing in Spain.
Organizations must also prove compliance with tax and legal obligations and confirm that no rulings or penalties related to violations of immigration, labor, or data protection laws have been issued against them during the three years prior to submitting the registration request.
The State Secretariat for Migration will oversee the management of the new system, while the General Directorate for Migration Management will supervise its technical implementation, ensuring full compliance with European and Spanish data protection regulations.
This step comes as part of the Spanish government’s efforts to improve migration management mechanisms and strengthen the role of social organizations in supporting migrants and facilitating their integration into society, particularly as the number of foreign residents in the country has increased in recent years.
