Turkey Cancels Customs Exemption on Imported Goods and Imposes New Fees
The Turkish government has issued a new presidential decree canceling the €30 (approximately $35) customs exemption on non-commercial goods imported by individuals via mail or express shipping.
Under the new amendment, which will take effect within 30 days, only imported medicines and dietary supplements valued up to €1,500 will be exempt from customs duties, marking a significant change from previous rules that applied a lower exemption limit and additional shipping fees.
This move is expected to significantly impact small consumer orders from foreign shopping websites known for their low-priced products, especially those that benefited from the previous customs exemption.
In 2024, Turkey had reduced the exemption limit from €30 to €27 and added a €3 shipping fee, before completely abolishing the system in its latest update.
