UK Suspends Visas for Four Countries and Tightens Immigration Measures
The United Kingdom has announced the suspension of certain visa categories for citizens of four countries, describing the move as an emergency measure aimed at regulating legal immigration and curbing the rising number of asylum applications within the country.
The decision halts the issuance of student visas for nationals of Afghanistan, Cameroon, Myanmar, and Sudan, in addition to suspending work visas for Afghan citizens.
The UK Home Office stated that the measure follows a noticeable increase in asylum applications from individuals who entered the country using legal visas, which the government views as an exploitation of certain legal immigration routes.
Authorities confirmed that this is the first time such a suspension has been applied to nationals of these countries, noting that the measure is temporary and will be reviewed periodically based on developments.
The government emphasized that the step is part of a broader strategy to reorganize the immigration system, ensuring alignment with labor market priorities and the capacity of public services.
The announcement comes amid escalating political debates in the UK over immigration and asylum numbers, with calls for stricter visa oversight and prevention of misuse.
