Health Warnings in Germany After Discovery of a New Monkeypox Strain

The Office of Health and Social Services in Berlin announced the spread of a new strain of the monkeypox virus (Mpox) in the German capital, confirming three cases of the strain known as “lb,” amid concerns over increased infections due to community transmission.

According to health officials, the three cases involved men aged between 30 and 50, showing typical symptoms including fever, skin lesions, and swollen lymph nodes.

In this context, Alexander Strassmeir, head of the Berlin Health Office, emphasized that vaccination remains the primary method for preventing the disease and its complications, noting the effectiveness of the vaccine in reducing transmission.

The office recommended that all relevant groups complete any missing vaccine doses and check their immune status, especially men and healthcare workers.
