Britain Begins Enforcing Stricter Visa and Immigration Rules

New measures related to the immigration system in Britain came into effect on Tuesday as part of a government plan aimed at tightening oversight on visa issuance and regulating the labor market.

According to the UK Home Office, the changes include raising certain salary requirements for jobs eligible for work visas, along with increased scrutiny of sponsorship applications to ensure alignment with local labor market needs.

The new measures aim to reduce over-reliance on foreign labor and encourage companies to invest in training domestic talent, at a time when the country is engaged in broad discussions about immigration numbers and their impact on the economy and public services.

The revised rules also tighten family sponsorship conditions for some visa categories, with periodic reviews of the jobs listed on the shortage occupation list.

The government emphasizes that these steps are part of a comprehensive plan to recalibrate the immigration system, balancing economic needs with protection of the local labor market.

Critics, however, warn that the tightening may worsen labor shortages in critical sectors such as healthcare and hospitality.

The new changes are expected to affect thousands of work visa applicants in the coming months, especially those preparing to submit applications under the previous rules.
