Brussels to Suspend Two Bus Lines Soon as Part of Public Transport Development Plan

The transport authorities in Belgium’s capital, Brussels, have announced a forthcoming decision to suspend two bus lines in the coming period, as part of a plan to reorganize and improve the efficiency of the city’s public transport network in line with new urban mobility patterns.

Officials explained that the decision follows a comprehensive evaluation of passenger flow on the two affected lines, showing decreased ridership compared to other routes, along with the availability of nearby alternatives served by the metro or tram.

Authorities confirmed that suspending the two lines will not isolate affected neighborhoods, as alternative transport options will be provided, and some nearby lines will be reinforced to ensure continuity of daily commuting for residents, workers, and students.

The decision is expected to take effect within the next few months, following the completion of technical consultations and the necessary arrangements to inform passengers and update schedules and routes.

The transport administration emphasized that the goal of this step is to enhance service quality and optimize resources, rather than reduce public transport services.

The announcement has sparked debate among residents of the affected areas, with some demanding clear and smooth solutions before implementation, while officials maintain that the changes are necessary to keep up with urban transformations and improve the user experience within Brussels’ transport network.
