Brussels Abolishes Solar Panel Installation Tax to Support Renewable Energy

The Brussels municipality has announced the removal of the Temporary Occupation of Public Spaces (OTVP) tax related to solar panel installations, aiming to encourage residents and businesses to invest in renewable energy solutions.

This decision is part of a comprehensive municipal tax reform focused on promoting sustainable environmental practices and stimulating investment in clean energy.

The measure includes exemptions for the use of scaffolding, cranes, and temporary sidewalks required for solar panel installation, with a maximum area of 5 square meters and a limit of two working days.

Anas Ben Abd Al-Moumen, a member of the municipal finance council, emphasized that this exemption ensures tax fairness and promotes responsible behavior. He stated that taxes should support good practices rather than discourage them, highlighting that the decision reflects Brussels’ vision to support environmental policies and encourage sustainable energy use.

This measure, approved last December as part of a broader budget reform, will be applied across the Brussels municipality, making solar energy investment easier and more attractive for both residents and business owners.
