Turkey Considers Temporary Increase in Minimum Wage
The Turkish government has announced plans to study a temporary raise in the minimum wage to keep pace with rising living costs and inflation, aiming to protect low-income workers and improve their purchasing power.
According to officials, the anticipated increase will be implemented gradually and will apply to all employees earning around the current minimum wage, while taking into account the economic impact on small and medium-sized enterprises.
Economic experts noted that this measure comes amid growing pressure on Turkish households due to rising prices of basic goods and energy, emphasizing that adjusting the minimum wage could help alleviate the financial burden on the most vulnerable segment of the labor market.
The government also confirmed that it will assess the impact of the increase on inflation and prices before approving any final adjustment, to ensure economic sustainability and avoid harming the private sector in Turkey.
