UK Accuses EasyJet of Misleading Customers Over Large Cabin Bag Prices

The UK’s Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has accused low-cost airline EasyJet of misleading consumers after it claimed that the cost of adding a large cabin bag to flight bookings starts from £5.99 ($8.27).

The ASA stated that there was insufficient evidence to show that this price is widely available across a broad range of routes and travel dates, arguing that the use of such wording in marketing materials is misleading for consumers in the UK.

The authority called on EasyJet to ensure that the lowest prices for large cabin bags are available on a significant proportion of flights in the future, noting that these bags are designed to fit in overhead lockers on aircraft.

Most low-cost airlines charge additional fees for passengers carrying large cabin bags. EasyJet, however, told the regulator that its advertised price is accurate and widely available, though it may vary depending on supply and demand as well as operational costs.
