New Strike to Halt Train Services in Belgium from Sunday to Wednesday
Labor unions in Belgium’s rail transport sector have announced a new strike that will partially halt train services from Sunday through Wednesday. The strike aims to pressure the government and operating companies to improve working conditions and increase wages.
The strike is expected to affect most national and regional train lines, potentially disrupting rail services and causing delays for millions of passengers who rely on the daily network to get to their workplaces or intercity travel.
Union representatives stated that workers’ demands include reviewing wage systems, enhancing health protections, and improving the working environment within railway companies. Previous negotiation attempts did not yield significant progress, prompting the decision to strike.
Railway management has called on companies and authorities to resume dialogue and provide practical solutions to minimize negative impacts on citizens, while advising passengers to plan their trips in advance and seek alternative transportation during the strike.
The strike is expected to have widespread effects on train operations in major cities such as Brussels, Antwerp, and Bruges, where thousands of people rely on trains for daily commuting.
